Romuald Pustelnik
European integrative community school in Wilkanów

The present project has been developed owing to the idea of partnership of the flood victims of July 1997.This idea gave foundations for building as well as model cooperation between the three European schools: from Frankfurt-on-Oder, Germany, Zator in the Czech Republic, and from Wilkanów, Poland. The initiative was launched by the editor of "Die Zeit", countess Marion Doenhoff, who also raised the funds. The winner of the competition for the best design of Wilkanów school was Romuald Pustelnik. The project allows for the various aspects of the idea of integration and is based on the author's own concept related to function and space, which would create possibilities of implementing new programs of European school in Poland. In order that such programs be accomplished, a hexagonal spatial structure has been accepted. The shape of the roofs and proportions of form and mass correspond with regional architecture of Kłodzko district. A hotel part is planned to occupy the attics, being separated from the onestoreyed interior of the school. The hotel part will enable international and domestic cooperation between young people. The technologies to be applied are cost-saving and enable fast realization of the project.
